A Conduit Cut Length Calculator estimates the length of conduit to cut before bends are made. It combines the measured straight portions of a raceway with the length contribution assigned to bending and an optional field-waste percentage.
The resulting Recommended cut length is used during conduit layout and fabrication to prepare a conduit stick for bending, threading, coupling, or final installation. It supports a planned conduit route; it does not determine conductor ampacity, AWG or kcmil size, raceway fill, voltage drop, branch-circuit rating, feeder rating, or overcurrent protection.
A conduit length estimate is most useful when several bends are included in a run and the installer needs a documented starting length rather than adding a general allowance by judgment alone.
Straight Runs and Bend Shrink
The calculation begins with the physical straight portions of the conduit route:
- Straight run 1 is the first measured straight segment.
- Straight run 2 is the second straight segment, or 0 when it is not used.
- Straight run 3 is the third straight segment, or 0 when it is not used.
These three entries produce the Straight length total.
Each bend can affect the usable developed length of the conduit. The calculator represents that effect through two field inputs:
- Bend count is the number of bends covered by the selected shrink value.
- Shrink per bend is the estimated length contribution assigned to each bend.
The product of those values is the Bend shrink total. The calculator adds that amount to the straight conduit total to produce the Adjusted length.

Waste Allowance
Waste allowance applies an optional percentage to the Adjusted length. It can account for cut-end cleanup, minor field variation, layout tolerance, or a controlled fabrication reserve.

The waste percentage is applied after bend shrink has been included. It is not a substitute for measuring the actual route, confirming bend locations, or verifying the selected bending method.

Field Verification
Bend shrink is not a universal fixed value. It depends on the actual bend geometry, conduit type and trade size, bending equipment, bend sequence, and the field layout method used. Enter a Shrink per bend value that represents the specific bends included in Bend count; do not apply one assumed value to bends with different measured behavior without verifying it.
The calculator also does not add allowances for couplings, connectors, threaded engagement, boxes, cabinets, pull points, expansion fittings, offsets with unique layout requirements, or equipment-specific termination dimensions. Those conditions must be measured and incorporated into the conduit layout separately.
After cutting and bending, verify the completed raceway against the installed endpoints and confirm it supports the required conductor installation. Conduit routing can affect conductor pulling conditions, raceway fill, conductor derating where applicable, equipment access, and voltage-drop design, but those electrical decisions require their own conductor and installation calculations.

Does the cut length include fittings?
No. This page adds only the straight runs, entered shrink allowance, and waste allowance. Include coupling, threading, fitting, and fabrication details in the project-specific layout.
What should shrink per bend represent?
Use the shrink assumption appropriate to the bend method and job. The calculator does not infer it from conduit size or a manufacturer bender table.
